enchanted rock

Since Mark and I were both off on Friday we decided to take a little trip to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. It is up by Fredericksburg. We thought that the actual Enchanted Rock would be much bigger, but then when we saw it we were a little disappointed. People say that everything is bigger in Texas, but that's not entirely true especially when it comes to "mountains". Texas "mountains" are just big hills. It's just funny when you come from where mountains are really mountains.
So back to the story. We got there and started hiking. We ended up hiking for like 4 1/2 hours. I didn't even realize we were there for that long. We started by checking out a primitive camping area where you hike in all your camping gear. We actually found a nice little spot that we may end up going back to. Then Mark had the bright idea of following the creek back to the other trail that went around Enchanted Rock. Note to self, not the best idea to follow him. So we ended up crossing that creek several times so my shoes socks and pants were soaking wet. Fun Times! So I was slightly annoyed, but got over it fast. We make it back to the main trail and hike around the rock. This is the view from the backside

We followed this little trail that went right up to the steep part. We thought we were going to find something cool, but turns out the trail we followed was for people wanting to rock climb.

Eventually we made it almost to the front but Mark wanted to just make his own path, so we just hiked up the side of the rock. Luckily this part wasn't that steep. But we did find these cool rocks that were just siting on the side. Not sure how they stay like that, but it was neat.

So we finally make it to the top. It was kind of cool because there are all these little pools of water with grass growing in them.

Then we found this little cave that was kinda fun. Mark went down in it. Akira was so scared she wouldn't even go near the entrance. Here's the entrance

Then we went a little further back and Mark went down in this part where I could barely see him.


When he was down there he said there was another spot to go in, but we didn't have any flashlights, plus all we could think about is this scary movie where this group of friends gets trapped in a cave. Freaky!
By this time it was getting late and we headed back down the rock. This is the view from the bottom.

You see why we weren't all the impressed. But it really turned out to be a good hike and we had fun together.

On a side note, the other day Butters and Callie were sitting together and Callie started licking Butters, it was so cute mostly because Callie always acts like she doesn't really like him. They look so cute together.
